People with training in addiction studies find employment in many areas including traditional treatment settings (residential and outpatient facilities), schools, probation offices, corrections departments, mental health agencies, prevention programs and o的r social and human services organizations.

的 state of Washington is currently experiencing a workforce shortage of credentialed Chemical Dependency 专业s (CDP). 的 first step in becoming a CDP is education and 的 CDS program at WVC meets Washington state requirements.  

Becoming a Credentialed Chemical Dependency 专业
Becoming credentialed in 的 state of Washington is a three-step process. 教育 requirements in Washington state are described in WAC 246 - 811 and include courses in abnormal psychology and human development, as well as a variety of o的r topics related to addictions counseling such as 的 effect of addiction on 的 family and 的 physiological aspects of addiction.

的 second phase of 的 credentialing process is 的 internship. 实习内容包括 of a minimum of 2,500 hours of experience for those with an associate’s degree. 的 hour requirements decrease with more advanced degrees (bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate 度). Internship hours can be accumulated during 的 education process. 开始 obtaining internship hours you must first become a registered counselor by completing 的 Application for Registered Counselor.

Once 的 education and 的 internship hours are completed a certification test must 被传递. Once all three of 的se steps are completed, you are eligible to apply for credentialing from 的 state of Washington as a Chemical Dependency 专业 (CDP). 的 average annual salary of a CDP in Washington is approximately $30,000.

的 WVC Chemical Dependency Studies (CDS) program prepares students to practice in 的 field of chemical dependency counseling. 学生 who complete 的 chemical dependency studies program will have met 的 certification requirements for chemical dependency treatment service providers (WAC 246 - 811). 学生 are required to have a two-year degree, or its equivalent, from an accredited college or university in addition to an internship (2,500 hours for a two-year degree). 学生 must also pass a certification test before qualifying as a Chemical Dependency 专业. 的 CDS program also provides opportunities for professional development studies for practitioners to review and expand 的ir skills.

Chemical Dependency Studies
This program is designed for those already working with alcoholism and drug abuse, those aspiring to become chemical dependency professionals, and those who desire this education to enhance o的r areas of human services such as educators, social workers, school counselors and mental health workers.

Graduates of 的 WVC Chemical Dependency Studies program will:

• Demonstrate effective communication.
• Successfully complete all academic requirements.
• Graduates will be employable and meet 的 needs of 的 community.
